From 23rd October 2008 to 19th April 2009
Ca dei Carraresi - Treviso
The prestigious Canaletto Exhibition at the Casa dei Carraresi in Treviso pays homage to this Master of the Italian and European Vedutism view painting movement. His extraordinary bravura in portraying the sights, views and panoramas of Venice at that time has indeed ensured his place among the most famous Italian artists abroad.
It is now possible to admire a complete tour of his work, including two pieces sent to Treviso from Russia. These are the Ingresso solenne del conte di Gergy a Palazzo Ducale (The solemn entrance of the Count de Gergy in the Doge's Palace) from the Hermitage, St. Petersburg and Il ritorno del Bucintoro (The return of Bucintoro), from Moscow’s Pushkin Museum.
So, until 19th April, Treviso and the noble Casa dei Carraresi will become a must-see for art lovers, and in particular, lovers of Italian art. The exhibition conveys the visitor through the Venetian ambiance, the people crowding the streets, the fascinating views; everything, in fact, which has made Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto, an undisputed reference point in Eighteenth Century figurative culture.
